My experience using it for python specifically - I don't like the autocomplete as much as P圜harm, but maybe need to fiddle with the settings more. I think the integration with git has been my favorite of editors I've used so far (which kind of makes sense, since it is developed by GitHub).Ītom also seems particularly popular with full-stack developers and web developers - at least all the ones I know seem to be using it. I like the look/feel, some of the packages are really sweet. Highly customizable, lots of great packages, finding packages and installing them is very easy. Maybe some sublime text users can champion why it's worth the price tag over other editors.Ītom - Free text editor, somewhat similar to sublime. When there's so many good free options out there now, it's not a big deal to pass this one up if the price is a concern. Also, my understand is that you can use it for free, but it hits you with popups asking you to purchase the $70 licensed version. Disclaimer: I've never used Sublime, so I can't offer a lot of info on it. Sublime Text - Very popular text editor, has been around for a while. I think it's a great choice for a beginner and a lot less intimidating to learn than some text-editors, where you are thrown to the wolves to figure out how to construct your own IDE out of various plugins for the text-editor. Lots of cool features available right away. Doesn't require nearly as much time to get setup. P圜harm Very common choice for a Python IDE. The downside of this is that text-editors rarely feel "right" out of the box, and getting it set up can take a lot of time, which especially isn't ideal if you are brand new to coding and want to spend your time learning instead of tweaking editor settings. You can pretty much adjust every minutia of how a text editor behaves. Oftentimes they are highly customizable/hackable. Why use a text editor? Lighter weight than an IDE if performance is a concern. Area where IDE's really shine is visual debugging. You don't need to spend as much time setting stuff up, installing plugins, etc. Why use an IDE? More built-in features out of the box. Here's some of the most popular and why people like them. You're going to get a whole bunch of different recommendations on different text-editors and IDE's to use.
